Acute Fractures of the Carpal Scaphoid-Literature Review

چکیده
Introduction/Methods: Scaphoid fractures are the most common fractures of the carpal bones of the wrist, and represent 11% of all fractures of the upper extremity and between 70% and 80% of all carpal fractures. In most cases, the mechanism of injury is a fall with the wrist extended. Although conservative treatment of stable fractures of the carpal scaphoid associated with a high rate of consolidation, this method requires prolonged immobilization in a cast or brace, which generates muscular atrophy, possible muscle spasms, osteopenia disuse, as well as higher economic costs. Therefore, the internal fixation of fractures of the scaphoid has become popular. The aim of this study is to establish the current evidence supporting surgical treatment versus conservative in acute fractures of the carpal scaphoid, through a literature review of the literature. In addition consider whether treatment recommendations population can be extrapolated to amateur athletes and / or professionals.

Fractures and nonunions of the carpal scaphoid in children.
Fractures of the carpal scaphoid in children show some quite remarkable differences with respect to fractures of the carpal scaphoid in adults. A review of the literature shows that fractures in children are more often located in the distal third, are more often incomplete and are usually not displaced. Our experience with 23 fresh fractures of the carpal scaphoid in children confirms these fin...

Fractures of the scaphoid are the most common carpal injuries. Suspected scaphoid injuries make up a large part of the work of an accident and emergency department, and unfortunately make up a significant percentage of litigation claims. Initial radiographs cannot always detect fractures while undisplaced and subsequently untreated fractures may give rise to premature carpal collapse and degene...

CASE PRESENTATION An 18-y...

BACKGROUND The scaphoid fractures account for 50%-80% of all carpal bone fractures in young individuals. Non-union of the fracture occurs in approximately 5%-10% of undisplaced scaphoid fractures. Current management varies significantly among different places and surgeons. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this review is to investigate the evidence of the effectiveness and safety of various treatment...

Carpal bone fractures make up a significant proportion of injuries to the wrist. The complex bone shape and articulations make diagnosis more difficult and missed injuries more common. This article reviews carpal bone fractures excluding the scaphoid.
